Walk The Sky

1. When were Walk The Sky formed as a band and how did you all get to know each other in the first place and tell us about the members of the band?
The band Walk the Sky came about gradually. I had been talking to a friend, Jeff Lemas, about doing a CD but had not considered him as the drummer for the band at the time. I jammed w/ him and he was great! We rehearsed the songs just a few times and did the drum tracks. The bass tracks were started by Marc Baroz, ex-Soldier, he did 4 tracks and then later opted out. Tom Young, a friend since high school, finished the remaining 7 bass tracks. As we were recording the tracks, I still had not reached a decision on who would do the vocals. I had a list of a few singers but Tom had a friend, Rob Bonstin, who had been in the SF club scene as I was in the late 80's and early 90's. Rob had just finished a project, Press, and still kept his chops up doing vocals for another band every weekend. He came down and did a tune, he fit perfectly. The band is mainly from Northern California.
2. Who have been the bands main influence musical and where do the band get it's ideas for the lyrics, are they taken out of everyday and personal experience?
The members of Walk The Sky love the sound of BIG production. I know we are fans of bands like: Queensryche, Rough Cutt, Dokken, and many other melodic metal bands. The lyrics are taken out of everyday and personal experiences. The meaning should be up to the listener.
3. The band has just put out its debut, Walk The Sky. How well has it done so far and are the band happy with the overall result or are there things the band would have liked to seen were done different, when it comes to the recording of the album?
Without doing too much work yet, the CD is selling. The band is very happy how the CD came out. A few minor changes could have been made on the CD but why go back, we'll just make the next release sound better.
4. Has there been any interest from any record labels for the band from Japan and Europe?
As of yet, no label interest but we haven't been pursuing a label either. Since the CD just came out, we have been trying to promote it on our own. If a label approaches that wants to work with us or if the band likes a label we may consider them. We will explore all options.
5. Could the band tell us a little about the tracks featured on the album, and what's the bands personal favorite track to play live?
The band loves doing melodic metal but we also wanted to branch out into some blue's influenced rock also. As far as favorites, I'd have to say: Lay It On The Line, Don't You Know What Love Is, Always Remember, Snake Eyes, Make Up Your Mind, and What You Need.
6. What's the bands personal point of view on todays music industry and the general music scene as it's seen on MTV and heard on the mainstream radio stations?
In the US the labels and radio stations are all owned by the same companies and it is very hard to get any recognition. Listen to US radio and all the songs sound exactly the same. MTV is the same. It's just a matter of who the labels are pouring money into these days and they become the flavor of the month. The industry wants to sell a package and not any kind of ability or talent. Labels wonder why they are losing money and I believe it is due to their lack of finding great bands. That is why the underground and.indies will always be around.
7. Hows the local area where the band hails from when it comes to get gigs to play and get played on the local radio stations?
Gigs would and are not a problem at all.
The radio stations are pretty much closed to local bands. Everything is so corporate now. Since the labels and stations are owned by the same companies it is almost impossible to get local band on the radio.
8. What's been the bands best moments in it's short time of existence and so far do the band itself feel it's been a struggle to get to where the band is now?
The bands biggest moment and struggle was just getting the CD finished. So many things happened during the recording, mixing, and mastering.
9. What does the future holds for the band at this moment in time, any plans of touring in the progress and what about new material are?
The band is just trying to promote itself and the CD right now. No tour plans as of yet. Since I am the main writer of the bands material, I do have about 3 CD's worth of material in my head and have already sketched the bands next songs for the next release.
10. Any last words to the fans/people out there here in the end?
Hope you all like the CD and we all hope we can do another. Thanks
