Fate

1. Peter start by telling us what you are currently up to and what evetually let to Fate re-uniting again a couple of years ago and how was it for the first time in over 10 years being back on stage down in Munich?
Well.. It was great fun playing live again. A matter of fact, we played a lot of the old songs, which was a strange feeling, after all those years, but the great thing was that they still felt fresh and alive...Off course Per (Vocal) and S¯ren (Guitar) had never played those songs before,so in a way it felt like new songs to us all! For some strange reason a old demosong ended up in a chart in Australia!! Journalists in Germany picked up on the story and not long after MTM contacted us because they wanted to re-release the old albums.Things started to happen after that and now FATE V is out soon....
2. Many have wondered what happened back when Fate split up. Wasit due to the climax the music scene was in with Grunge etc. or was it internal problems within the band that cost the split and what did you all do up to the reunion in 2004?
No, there was absolutely no personal problems between us in the band, and it had nothing to with the music scene in general. I think we simply got tired and sort of lost the energy. Being in a band takes up a lot of your time and it is crusual that you commit yourself 100 %, otherwise its a waste of time..So we simply took a break....quite a long one! I didn't kept track of the other old members but Per, he continued making music. I changed competely and ended up in totally different line of work.
3. Today Fate consist of Per Johanson, Søren Hoff, Micke Qvist and yourself Peter Steincke. Is this the final line up or there gonna be changes as the band goes a long, since Micke Qvist is based in Stockholm and the rest of the band in Denmark and what eventually happened to the bands original drummer Bjarne Holm, wasn't there plans for him to be a part of the re-union?
Micke was asked to do the album to begin with, but live its gonna be a different drummer - not Bjarne, he is doing other things - Micke living in sweden is a pratical problem.I cant tell at the moment who its going to be, but we will know soon.....We will probaly also have a keyboardplayer live....
4. The new album entitled, V, is gonna be released in a short time. It took almost 2 years to reocrd it, why that long and are all the traacks on the new album brand new or are some of them of a older date and did you find it easy to go back and write this type of music again?
Oh no it didnt take 2 years. We have been throwing ideas on the table for the last couple of years. Writing songs took about 6 month and making the album a couple of weeks! All the songs are brand new and it was very easy to do. This is the kind of music we love, so songs just pop up....
5. Just to reflect on the time before, Scratch N Sniff. What made Jeff Lox Limbo and Hank Sherman to leave the band in the first place and do you have any idea of what they are donig today and was there ever a demand from MTM Music of getting those two on board for a new album or was it a subject that never surfaced?
To be honest, they should speak for themselves, but I think they wanted to do other things at that time. MTM Music has not been involved in the recording/songwriting or who is in the band at all! We have been totally in control ourselves and did it our way.
6. Did you or the rest of the guys in the band, which is Fate now, have any concerns or second thoughts going back to play melodic rock after so long time a part from the music and were you ever aware that there still is a scene for this type of music and are you familiar with any of the bands in this genre today?
We didnt think for a minute about genres or whatever! If there is a scene for this kind of music or not, is really not our concern. Whether its 1986 or 2006, this is what FATE do, regardless of what is going on otherwise. Off course we have grown older and surely the music reflects that, and we have picked up things over the years, but this is our kind of music. We have maybe changed a bit as musicians but all in all its pretty much the same. We know what is going on and is listening to a lot of good music!
7. As we mentioned on earlier the new Fate album, V, is soon to be out and the band have planned a release party in Copenhagen on 6th of May on The Rock. Has the found any keyboard player for the gig yet and what about a opening band?
We a planning on having keyboard live this time and there is going to be a opening band - dont know who yet.
8. What's the bands personal point of view on todays music industry and the general music scene as it's seen on MTV and heard on the mainstream radio stations?
Being away from the business so many years, it seems like nothing much has changed! A lot of the mechanisms are still the same , including the relationship between band and others; record company, management and so on. As for radio and tele, I personally dont listen/see a lot. There are things I like - and dont..
9. What does the future holds for the band at this moment in time, any plans of touring in the progress and what about new material?
There will always be new material along the way and I think we will play live as much as we possible can ...
10. Any last words to the fans/people out there here in the end?
Good fun being back....
