Danny Vaughn

1. Just to reflect for a moment on the Tyketto tour late last year, how were the whole impact on the band to be first of all back again over in Europe and back together as how it all started out. Was there a lot of nerves involved before coming over and how was it to find out that people flew in from so far away as Brazil?

None of were really sure what to expect. I think the worst nightmare we all had was making all this effort and all the noise in promoting "the big reunion" only to find out on the day that 2 grannies and their dog show up! We were nervous. We knew that we couldn't just get together a few times and call it "good enough". We worked extremely hard to get as tight as possible to give the best show we were capable of giving. The response we got was fantastic. We couldn't have hoped for better. As you say, people came in from all over the world to see us and I hope nobody went back disappointed.

2. Seeing Tyketto playing the Underworld in London, and then compared to see you guys back in Copenhagen/Denmark in 1994, was like you guys were never actually really gone, the band hit of straight away. How did the band find together so fast in the rehearsal room before playing those dates in Europe last year?

We were always pretty smart about rehearsals. We never took things for granted. So we got together a month before the tour for one week. That put a real scare into us because I think some of us thought we would just all fall back into place naturally and it didn't. It took 4 or 5 rehearsals before it felt like us again. Then we went away from each other for 2 or 3 weeks and everybody worked really hard on their own to tighten up their parts. Then we got back together just before the tour and rehearsed for another week and got things up to standard. The results were some very tight shows that we were proud of.

3. The next logical questions regarding Tyketto, and probably one you have heard more than once, is are there gonna be a new Tyketto album and is it even anything the band have considered doing, I guess it's not gonna be the problem to find a label which gonna keep the band from doing one new album but maybe more a financial question or what?

No, there are no plans on anybody's part to do anything more. In fact I haven't spoken to any of the guys since the tour. We did try to write some songs before the tour to see if we might have a new song or two to play for the reunion, but nothing we tried felt up to our standard. Writing together the way we used to requires getting into a rhythm with each other that simply isn't possible now that we all live so far apart. So, no plans for anything more from Tyketto.

4. The last album you did singing lead vocals on were the band project From The Inside on Frontiers Records. How were you approached with that opportunity and is it something you would like to do again or see develop into maybe more than a studio project?

The good people at Frontiers have been wanting to work with me on something for several years now but since I was signed with another label, they kept a respectful distance. Once I was free of the old label, they approached me with the idea of making an album of other people's songs and I wasn't really fond of the idea right away. As we went on, though, I really got into the challenge of it. It was also a good way for me to do a full on melodic rock album. While my own writing will always be melodic, the songs I write for my own band have a slightly different flavour. This was more direct and simple and I would definitely do it again since this music is a part of me. One of my different sides, you might say.

5. It's been quit a while since your other band Vaughn, have done anything together. Is that on a hold for the moment or are there any plans for the band to release a new album?

I have hopes to release another Vaughn album next year but I must be honest and say that problems in my personal life have slowed down my writing process. I'm not a fast worker to begin with so this hasn't helped. I'm really not sure what will happen next. However, I've been approached with the idea of collaborating with a couple of musicians that I'm really excited about. I won't say more just now because it's too early days yet, but a whole new band could result from it. We'll see.

6. A lot of bands nowadays put out DVD's of either recorded live show's or a best of collection of music videos. Is that something you could see Tyketto or Vaughn, be doing in the future?

As a matter of fact, it is a project that I am in the middle of working on for the future. The idea that we had for my DVD would be one that spans my career. I have footage from al the band that I've been in as well as the videos I've done and we were planning on doing interviews as well. It's a pet project that will take a huge amount of work but it's something that my partner, Hayley Warren, and I are very passionate about and hope to find a way to make for next year.

7. In 2002 you released a 6 track EP, Standing Alone, which have sold out a long time ago. Would you consider re-releasing that album again?

Yes, I intend to do that as well. Sadly, all these ideas depend directly on finances and money has not been flowing lately. I want to release "Standing Alone" again sometime this year and make it available on the internet. Also, I have accumulated more than enough songs for another acoustic album. One which would be much more involved than the last one, full of songs that I've written that wouldn't be at home on a Vaughn album or a rock album. Real story telling stuff. Very different. It's another project that I hold dear to my heart and hope to do int he future.

8. What are you keeping yourself busy with these dates, any new interesting projects coming our way and are there anything you would like to give us the download on?

Nothing other than what I've already mentioned. There may be something new and exciting in the near future but it's too soon to tell just now. These days I mostly just go to work and try tog et the bills paid. Not very exciting but it's the truth.

9. What's you personal point of view on todays music scene/industry as it's taken it's place on MTV and heard on the mainstream radio stations and how about the way the major labels are treating it's bands/artists?

I'm very disappointed with the way it's all gone downhill. MTV killed rock and roll. Now our audiences, particularly in America, have an incredibly short attention span. Thumb is always on the TV remote. And a band can go from being unknown to completely over exposed in a couple of months. There's no subtlety in the major labels anymore. No passion for their own artists. It's just products, like soup cans or washing machines. It's all become soulless and sad. And the talent bar has been lowered drastically. Albums are being made because a band has one or two good songs and the rest of the tracks are junk filler. That's another reason why downloading has become so popular, because people are tired of being burned when they buy an album because they heard one song they liked only to find out that the rest of it is crap. So now we, the general public, instead of demanding a higher level of talent, simply accept the scraps they throw at us, Britny Spears, Simple Plan, Lindsay Lohan, Shakira: are these artists with any depth or interest? Hell no. They are fucking holograms! The music industry is responsible for it's own demise.

10. What does the current future plans hold for you in this moment in time and are there any plans for you to head out on the road on your own?

As I mentioned, there are several possibilities but things at home right now demand my attention so I really can't say when I will be free again to record and tour. I'm hoping to get really busy again in 2006.

11. Any last words for the people/fans out there here in the end?

I am blessed with the best kind of fans. Ones that think and ones that care. They have always been patient with me and I hope they still will be. I can't wait to get out there and see everyone again.

All the best,
Danny Vaughn
